This facility
is widely recognized as the pre-eminent telecommunications carrier
hotel and data center facility in Canada. 151 Front Street houses
more than 150 telecommunication and technology companies.
The
Evolution of Canada's Premier Carrier Hotel
In 1954, 151 Front Street was custom built with heavy floor
loading, large power capacity and generous ceiling heights to
house CN / CP Telegraph equipment. Located adjacent to the rail
lines, the building was directly inter-connected to the Bell
Central office for its telex purposes.
After drifting away from its pure telex use in the 70's and
80's, 151 Front Street quietly began its evolution into Canada's
premier Carrier Hotel in the late 80's and 90's. A critical
mass of telecommunication networks took tenancy in the building
in response to the newly deregulated telecommunication industry
and the explosive growth of the Internet.
This silent evolution became a radical transformation when TrizecHahn
purchased the property in 1997. With a well thought out strategy,
TrizecHahn executed a redevelopment plan that removed the mixed
use tenants and replaced, repaired and upgraded every aspect
of the building that supports telecommunication and data center
requirements.
Today the building has 97% of its rentable square footage converted
to telecom space. Potential also exists for a 384,000 square
foot expansion with direct connectivity to 151 Front Street.
151 Front Street is the ideal environment for your high-availability
telecommunications and data center requirements.
